Hurricane Beryl’s Medical Relief support for Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Dear friends

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you on behalf of our organization – Grenadians United and Virginia Inc. ( GUIVA) a nonprofit organization, which holds a 501(c)(3) designation. For the past 30 years we have focused on supporting healthcare delivery in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique in the Eastern Caribbean. GUIVA seeks your urgent assistance and support in the wake of the recent devastating hurricane Beryl on July 1st 2024 as a category 4 storm that has severely impacted Cariaccou and Petite Martinique healthcare infrastructure.

Our organization is deeply committed and focused on healthcare to provide immediate and long-term support to those affected by this hurricane disaster. Given our charter’s focus on healthcare the immediate healthcare needs list was recently received and reviewed by our organization and has unanimously agreed to pursue assisting our friends and family in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Our focus is to address the acute and short term  healthcare needs of the affected population in Carriacou and Petite Martinque. In this regard, our organization has consulted with the healthcare team that partnered with GUIVA during the COVID crisis. We received guidance to source the required medication and medical testing devices and reagents for the health care clinics and hospital in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.  Additional support from St George’s University (SGU) assists with transportation of need list medication and medical equipment from the diaspora to Carriacou. The following Grenadian Physicians Graduates from

SGU – Dr. Michelle Friday FACC (Cardiologist), Dr. Lisa Radix FACN (Nephrologist), and Dr. Dwight Matthias FACP (Endocrinologist) have provided immeasurable assistance to GUIVA towards this mission.

The immediate needs include:

  1. **Acute Medical Care**: Addressing urgent health concerns such as injuries, infections, and exacerbations of chronic illnesses.
  2. **Subacute Assistance**: Providing continued medical support, including the management of chronic conditions and mental health services, over the coming months.

We believe that with your support, we can significantly improve the health outcomes for those affected by this disaster. We sincerely appreciate your consideration of support toward this request and look forward to making a meaningful impact. Thank you for your time and support.

Yours sincerely,

Ms. Merlene Friday-Gilmore,

President Grenada United Inc Virginia
